Nancy Xiaowen Jiang
Senior Consultant, DHL Consulting
My Job as Inhouse Consultant:
I started at DHLC as a Visiting Consultant in 2018 and transitioned to a full-time role in July 2020. Throughout my tenure, I’ve been involved in a diverse range of projects, spanning from Cybersecurity to Post-Merger Integration. This experience has allowed me to collaborate with four different divisions within the DHL Group, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of the company’s diverse business portfolio. Alongside my project work, I’m proud to lead the essential consultant training program for new DHLC team members.
My daily challenges:
Every day, my team and I work closely together to address a wide array of business challenges for our clients through project-based solutions. Our project teams typically consist of 3-5 members, with each team member taking ownership of distinct workstreams and topics within the same project. Our daily responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of activities, including Excel modeling, conducting market research, coordinating workshops, and preparing high-level executive presentations.
Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:
I love to work as an inhouse consultant thanks to the close relationship we nurture with our clients. Ultimately, our shared objective is “Connecting people. Improving lives.” As an inhouse consultant, I gain an intimate understanding of day-to-day business operations within the division and have the privilege of collaborating closely with clients who have over 20 years of industry experience. Furthermore, the opportunity to revisit and follow up on previous projects to witness their ongoing development is always interesting and rewarding.
What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:
The most motivating aspect of being an in-house consultant is undoubtedly the people. Working in consulting is an exhilarating and continuous learning journey, surrounded by driven professionals who share a common passion for the industry. At the same time, being part of a larger group together with our clients allows us to find a balanced approach to work and life.
My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:
Born and raised in Beijing, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Human Geography and Urban Planning at Peking University. Afterwards, I pursued a master’s degree in Business Analytics and International Management in Barcelona and London. Throughout my academic journey, I interned at various consulting firms and startups, where my passion for management consulting blossomed. However, I often encountered limited opportunities to see my ideas come to fruition. Inhouse consultancy has proven to be the perfect avenue to bridge that gap and allow me to see the impact I created.
What I like to do in my spare time:
I really enjoy music, both listening to it and singing along to my favorite genres. In my spare time, I love to travel and experience different cultures and new cities, a passion I developed during my bachelor’s studies. During the pandemic, I also started playing board games, which has become a new hobby of mine for further exploration and enjoyment.
