Director Research & Development

My Job as an Inhouse Consultant:

As a Director in the Research & Development (R&D) department of Bayer Business Consulting (BC), I enjoy managing strategic projects across Bayer’s Pharmaceutical, Crop Science and Consumer Health divisions, leading the project team and working closely together with senior stakeholder in the organization. In addition to client work, I also contribute to BC’s internal initiatives, such as R&D Innovation and Inclusion & Diversity, and are involved in recruiting activities and the facilitation of trainings for consultants.

My daily challenges:

As an inhouse consultant, we support our clients with strategic decision-making, defining directions and strategies (“where to play”) as well as helping with the development of realistic and reachable implementation plans (“how to win”). Of course, as a consultant one needs to bring in a neutral perspective – what is best for Bayer. While delivering high quality project results is of course key, another top priority is also the personal development of consultants on the project.

Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:

Working at Bayer Business Consulting offers a great mix of exciting and challenging projects, combined with a steep development curve. We are actively shaping the future of Bayer by working on a variety of topics high on the management agenda, such as defining R&D strategies for growth areas. A lot of projects also focus on digital and data science opportunities and we supported the digital roadmaps for our Pharmaceuticals and Crop Science divisions. It is also great to see and be aware of the impact the projects have, that I have been involved in. Additionally, it is nice to follow-up with client project teams also after projects have finished, seeing how they have progressed on their journey. Furthermore, I truly enjoy the open and constructive atmosphere among colleagues. Jointly, our consultant team and the clients are working on the big questions to bring Bayer forward.

What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:

What I really appreciate is to work in such a great environment at Business Consulting and to experience a great team spirit every single day. Also, at an inhouse consultancy I get to know the company very well and understand how the different functions are set up and work together and are able to build a network connecting different projects. What is also very important for me is that after 4 years at BC I am still learning every day something new.

My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:

I am a scientist by training. Prior to joining Bayer’s Business Consulting team, I studied Molecular Medicine, did my PhD in the field of Immunology and gained experience in management consulting at The Boston Consultant Group. Therefore, in the R&D Department of BC I can perfectly combine the two sides of my educational and professional background – science and business.

What I like to do in my spare time:

I love to spend time outdoors and to travel with my backpack, especially to places where I can hike in the mountains, experience culture and enjoy beaches all in one trip. Another passion is photography that can be perfectly combined with the travelling. To relax after a day of work, I love to put on my running shoes on and like to end the day with reading a good book.
