Daniel Eckmann
Head of Center Strategic Projects (CSP)
My Job as Inhouse Consultant:
I’ve been leading the Center for Strategic Projects (CSP) – the in-house consultancy of Deutsche Telekom – since 2016. This allows me to make an important contribution to the team that shapes the transformation of Deutsche Telekom while building up the digital infrastructure for the group and entire Germany.
My daily challenges:
Deutsche Telekom’s business model has changed rapidly due to disruptive developments over the past years. Consequently, revenues generated with voice and SMS services are almost entirely substituted. We are proud of leading Deutsche Telekom on a growth path in this challenging environment. This is also realized by many CSP projects. The construction of T-Security as well as the TV growth project are good examples. Positioning CSP in such projects is one of my core tasks.
For these highly strategic projects we need outstandingly well educated consultants. My second core task is to get such consultants enthusiastic about the CSP and Deutsche Telekom and to further develop them in their competencies.
Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:
On one side I appreciate the variety of different questions I am dealing with as consultant and on the other side I like to push forward strategic topics free from internal barriers. Can you imagine a more interesting job than creating a sustainable impact for a DAX30 group?
What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:
Thanks to the closer customer proximity, an in-house consultant can push projects more intensively. The center is associated with the COO department. Our mission is to coordinate all transformation programs of Deutsche Telekom and to detect reciprocities as well as dependencies, while also leading top programs by ourselves. We therefore push changes from the inside of Deutsche Telekom. Moreover, our center is characterized by excellent consultants and new concepts. Our vision is “Passion for IMPACT”. I am proud to see how we live this mindset in our project work and spread it across Deutsche Telekom.
My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:
I started my professional career at 3M in the field Medical Imaging. After that, I worked as product manager at Mitsui Chemicals, a Japanese chemistry firm. I left the company to start my career at the Deutsche Telekom group, initially at T-Systems where I was responsible for large outsourcing projects as sales manager. This experience made me discover my passion for project management. For that reason, I moved from T-Systems to Detecon. In 2012 I became part of the Executive Board of Detecon which made it possible for me to take responsibility for many exciting projects at Deutsche Telekom. Finally, I made my way to the in-house consultancy of Deutsche Telekom in 2016.
What I like to do in my spare time:
Typically, I spend my leisure time doing sports, travelling, reading literature and spending time with my family. I have a happy life with my wife and our children in Bonn. The riverbank of the Rhine is the perfect location to train for running events. My personal highlight is the Berlin Marathon which I already completed twice.
