Marvin Ulbrich
Analyst, Deutsche Bank AG
“I was especially driven to work as an internal consultant since it gave me the opportunity to work on some of the most pressing transformation projects within the bank.”
What was your background before joining DBMC:
I come from a rural area in Germany and received my BA in International Finance in Frankfurt. I studied a semester abroad in Bordeaux, and later obtained two Master degrees at Catolica Lisbon and ESCP Paris. After my studies I pursued an internship at DBMC, which converted directly into an Analyst role.
What attracted you to DBMC:
Not only is Deutsche Bank the most prestigious bank in Germany, but it was also in the process of executing a significant and successful transformation. I was especially driven to work as an internal consultant since it allowed me to work on some of the most pressing transformation projects within the Bank. I was also impressed by my colleagues’ backgrounds, many of whom have extensive consulting experience at well-known firms.
What is your favorite part of working at DBMC?
There are three things I love about working at DBMC:
- I get to work with some of the smartest people across the organization, both within DBMC and with our clients
- My colleagues are fun to work with. DBMC has an excellent team spirit, which makes it easier when tackle tough challenges
- I have had the opportunity to work on very diverse projects and broaden my skills and banking acumen
Tell us about a project you’ve worked on:
I developed a workforce model which improves the work-life balance and productivity of colleagues in the Private Bank Germany. This project was both challenging and satisfying at the same time. We determined the future target operating model for the division, convinced our senior management of the approach and delivered value for both employees and shareholders.
What’s something you’ve learned while at DBMC?
Take ownership of your deliverables and the values that you would like to represent within your team. It will boost your confidence and allow you to take on roles that align with your career goals. Another key learning at DBMC is effective and structured communication to give your stakeholders the right level of detail and achieve your objectives for each meeting. Already early in your career, you will get the opportunity to hold meetings with Deutsche Bank’s senior management.
What are some of your hobbies or interests outside of work?
I participated in the Corporate Challenge Run alongside some of my colleagues in the DBMC Frankfurt team. Some of us ran together at the Frankfurt Marathon, pushing us to the limits outside of our project work. Besides running, we are doing all sorts of activities together from Barry’s Bootcamp, to our annual Oktoberfest visit or Kanu tours. Besides sports with the DBMC colleagues, I am preparing for cross-country skiing marathons. Apart from this, visiting friends of mine, reading books, and evaluating investment opportunities are keeping me busy.
