Seungseok (David) Oh
Principal Consultant at Allianz Consulting
My Job as an In-house Consultant:
I joined Allianz Consulting in September 2017. In my role, I carry out cross-functional projects, such as designing a target operating model to adopt new technologies, and provide decision-makers with strategic advice in selecting technical solutions and service providers. As a certified project manager (PMP, PMI-ACP), I also manage inter-dependency coordination, stakeholder communication and functional collaboration throughout the project life cycle in a centralized PMO.
My daily challenges:
As new technical solutions are being constantly developed and introduced, it is a challenge to compare and align the business’ requirements with the capabilities of emerging technologies, and to select the solution that delivers the most value to my clients. It’s also challenging to persuade the organization to embrace some of the changes, and to engage all impacted stakeholders collaboratively during the implementation of new processes and technologies.
Why I like to work as an In-house Consultant:
As Allianz Consulting is fully integrated within Allianz, I experience more transparent communication, in-depth knowledge sharing and a sense of community and camaraderie with my Allianz colleagues around the world. Additionally, I like that I can pursue a consistent career path in the insurance industry through my consulting work.
What I like most about being an In-house Consultant:
As a consultant at Allianz Consulting, I take on projects that support a variety of initiatives spanning end-to-end of the entire insurance value chain. Through fruitful and hands-on experiences with various functions, I can gain a more holistic view of our business operations and identify the relationship that needs to exist across organizational boundaries to make our business work.
My life before joining the In-house Consultancy:
I started my professional career in the insurance industry, immediately after graduating from university in 2006. I worked in various positions in the insurance branch in Asia, amongst others as a Project Manager in charge of implementing front-end applications for sales agents and building a data-analytics foundation into commercial underwriting. With the exception of 2 years that I spent completing my MBA in Barcelona, Spain, I have worked my entire career in the insurance industry.
What I like to do in my spare time:
I like to travel to other countries and eat local food with my family. Munich is a great location for this, as its central location allows me to frequently travel to a variety of nearby cities and experience their different cultures. And I love to jog near my home with my 6-year-old daughter every weekend.
