Dr. Sven Grandke
Our projects have real impact for the group. For this, we are looking for the top talents – and we are the talent pool for our bank, which is among the best.
My life before joining Commerz Business Consulting
After having graduated from school, I went for something rather down-to-earth: a classic apprenticeship in banking. Thereafter, I majored in business administration which raised my interest in the consulting business and joined a small consultancy after graduation. I simultaneously started with my PhD, which finally led me to the world of external consulting with Roland Berger.
I was tasked primarily with topics related to restructuring and banking once again came into my life: apart from projects in the automotive and real estate sectors, I managed projects in financial services. 8 years in consulting, and especially at Berger entailing lots of travelling – usually five days out of town per week – made me take the step into joining a bank. Back to my roots if you will, yet with a mind set strongly on projects. After 4 years as divisional head at Dresdner Bank, during which I was responsible for several group-wide projects, I ventured the next step to CBC.
My motivation to join Commerz Business Consulting
Off the top of my head, I would say the perfect combination of high-class consulting with a constant support of the mother company, and that has not changed since the very first day. Especially the latter was one of the things I missed as an external consultant. After wrapping up a project, not having to move on to the next project and to adjust to new clients, but being able to stay, to see and experience the results of the team’s efforts unfolding, is something I rather enjoy.
Furthermore, at CBC we have the pleasure of supporting the very high-profile topics that help the group evolve and make it fit for the future. This being said, we supported, at least during my years at CBC, really substantial projects that can be considered true milestones, e.g. the setup our agile delivery organization, which is still today state of the art and unparalleled in the banking sector.
What I enjoy most at Commerz Business Consulting
First thing that comes to my mind is the close connections. Being part of the Commerzbank ecosystem, we built up an extensive network. Our vast CBC alumni network throughout the entire group on different levels sometimes allows for out-of-the-way connections you simply cannot gather from an official organization chart.
Especially in my function, I can rely on a longstanding trustful partnership with the group’s top managers. Being able to attract new talents to CBC and prepare them for their role at the group is a welcome addition to my job profile. Sometimes in the blink of an eye, you see yourself face to face on the client’s side of the table in a project, once again highlighting the importance of networking.
