Senior Consultant, thyssenkrupp Management Consulting

My Job as Inhouse Consultant:

I am working in the department Strategy & Performance at thyssenkrupp Management Consulting since July 2016. Typical tasks for a consultant comprise of many different aspects. The work includes everything from typical analytical work like analysis and concept developments to the drafting of presentations. Vital motto: try yourself out and become better every day.

My daily challenges:

We at TKMC work always there where the group has a task. We want to develop the company further; therefore our projects are strongly oriented on the corporate strategy. The projects include anything from competitor analysis to performance improvements and big transformation programs – partly with high level management but also on the shopfloor of small subsidiaries.

Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:

During the time at TKMC I started to recognize, that we in-house consultants are perceived differently on projects compared to external consultants. We are seen with the better industry expertise. This results in a more open communication and collaboration with our customers which in the end is a working style that is more on par and from colleague to colleague. What stands out for me in inhouse consulting, is the fact that you can see and follow up on the results from your work since you stay in the company after the project is finished.

What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:

My motivation for inhouse consulting is especially the possibility to have an active role in the transition and change of a big worldwide company like thyssenkrupp as well as consulting on an eye level. This is in particular important for thyssenkrupp since we are in the process of a strategic refocusing for our way forward. Moreover, through the projects and different setting I can build a strong network, which helps my career after time at TKMC. To conclude, I really like the down-to-earth mindset of thyssenkrupp, which reflects my character very well: Sometimes you even meet the CEO in the corporate cafeteria.

My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:

I am born and raised in the black forest in southern Germany. For my studies I moved to Darmstadt where I studied economics and engineering at the Technical University. To combination of economics and engineering fascinates me till this day. During my studies I was involved in the local student consulting group and partly very active in politics. Besides that, I did an internship abroad in the USA. Before I started working at TKMC permanently, I completed a four-month internship which I liked so much that I decided to join!

What I like to do in my spare time:

Besides work I try to work out as much as possible to balance out the work. Especially on weekends I travel a lot and I am very active. This could be anything from mountain climbing in the summer to skiing in the winter or cooking with friends.
