Jana Svecova

Senior Consultant, innogy Consulting GmbH

My Job as Inhouse Consultant:

I joined innogy Consulting – at that time RWE Consulting – in July 2013 and since then have worked both nationally and internationally at the clients’ locations. Thanks to the international presence of innogy and RWE I was able to work on projects in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Slovakia and Germany. The role of an internal consultant at RWE is very diverse. I have been involved in projects in change management, process optimisation and transformation and reorganisation of entities.

My daily challenges:

Our main objective each day is to gain trust with our clients. Being an inhouse consultant makes this a bit easier because we are seen as colleagues and share the same principles. However, every day we also need to grasp our client’s needs very quickly especially amidst the conditions of the changing energy market and the special task of realising the energy turnaround in Europe. Speaking of Europe it is sometimes hard, but also interesting to adapt quickly to the different cultural environments across the RWE Group. This is also one of the reasons why I like the job so much.

Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:

… internal consultants often stay in touch with the client and hence see their recommendations actually materialising in the business. Internal consultants play a key role in ensuring that their solutions are adopted, especially in case of longterm projects. After finishing an implementation project successfully, there is immense satisfaction in seeing that the project has made a real difference and benefited the client. Both sides work for the same company and hence in the end have the company’s best interest in mind. Last but not least, I think I can benefit a lot personally: the level of responsibility and autonomy that a consultant enjoys from the very beginning is unique.

What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:

One of the most appealing aspects of management consulting to me was the challenging and intellectually stimulating environment with the huge variety of projects. In my opinion, as an internal consultant you gain far more exposure to a large variety of roles and tasks during your career than in a line function.

My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:

I hold a Master’s degree in Economics and Finance from the Charles University in Prague. Prior to joining innogy Consulting, I worked for several years in the corporate finance field (especially mergers and acquisitions and financial management), where I gained valuable knowledge of financial processes as well as solid negotiation skills.

What I like to do in my spare time:

I enjoy all sports and outdoor activities and spend quality time with family and friends.
