Martin Gieca

Consultant, Inhouse Consulting Postbank

My Job as Inhouse Consultant:

I joined the Deutsche Postbank Inhouse Consulting in September 2016 as a consultant, directly after completing my master’s (postgraduate) degree. Before joining I had already been able to get to know the team as part of an internship. From the first day on I was integrated into relevant projects in the field of Operations & IT. We particularly support the strategic development and are responsible for the underlying figures. In addition to the regular project work I have the opportunity to form our young department by working on internal topics such as people development.

My daily challenges:

As Postbank Inhouse Consulting we support the senior management of the company in the development and implementation of strategic high priority projects, e.g. in the context of digitalization. A strong challenge for our daily work in interdepartmental projects is to anticipate and to consider the interests of various stakeholders. For the successful elaboration of solutions, which satisfy all stakeholders involved and in particular the client, a close involvement and communication is important. As an internal consultancy we have the advantage of a large network in all kind of business units and are able to identify key contacts very quickly.

Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:

As an inhouse consultant I work in a dynamic environment that is characterized by motivated and smart colleagues as well as challenging tasks. This provides me the opportunity to contribute my ideas every day and develop my team. Especially I appreciate it when my intensive work is mirrored by a direct and positive feedback from our clients, which gives me the certainty of developing the company.

What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:

One of the most interesting aspects of my job as an inhouse consultant is the unpredictability of the daily tasks and the various challenges we may face as a team on a daily basis Therefore, my learning curve remains constantly high and with advanced time I take over advanced opportunities to assume more responsibility. The fact that we are able to finish the day together and having a drink or practicing sports together, even after long working days, shows me that our team is a well-balanced team.

My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:

After the completion of my bachelor’s degree in Economics I took up the Master’s degree in Management with the focus on Banking & Finance at the University of Mannheim. A personal highlight during that time was to write my master thesis in cooperation with a strategy consultant, who was able to use my results for their annual banking study. Besides my studies I had the opportunity to gather first experience in project work during various internships in internal and external consultancies.

What I like to do in my spare time:

A few months ago I discovered the trend sport CrossFit for me, which provides me the opportunity to physically exhaust after mentally intensive workdays. On the other hand I can relax best with a serial evening or a good book.
