Dami Adekoya

Project Manager, DHL Consulting

My Job as Inhouse Consultant:

Since joining DHL Consulting in 2016, I have worked on a variety of topics across the various business divisions of the Deutsche Post DHL Group. My first project involved formulating market entry strategies for DHL eCommerce. My next assignments involved optimizing ground operations and increasing sales efficiency at DHL Global Forwarding. I am currently engaged in developing a new strategy for one of DHL Supply Chain’s regional entities.

My daily challenges:

Although it sounds like a cliché, the learning curve at DHL Consulting is really quite steep. From the get-go, I worked side by side with my clients, helping to develop solutions to some of their most critical challenges. This process involves formulating and structuring these issues, developing hypotheses, testing these hypotheses through data gathering and analysis, and then developing recommendations. All through the process, I pay particular attention to how I communicate my ideas and results, ensuring that my advice is always clear, unambiguous and valuable for my clients.

Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:

Inhouse Consulting truly offers the best of both worlds. As an Inhouse Consultant, I have become very familiar with the intricacies of the Deutsche Post DHL Group- its business model, competitive advantages and politics, giving me the ability to hit the ground running on every engagement. At the same time, I am often tasked with solving my clients’ most critical and challenging topics, ensuring that I never get too comfortable and that I have numerous opportunities to grow and develop.

What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:

The dual career path concept at DHL Consulting is very unique. Working at DHL Consulting gives me access to a traditional consulting career as well as an accelerated career in the Deutsche Post DHL Group. If, for whatever reason, I decide to leave DHL Consulting, the firm will offer to help place me in a managerial role within the wider Group.

My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:

In 2011, I received a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from Baylor University in Texas, USA. Subsequently, I worked for a few years in energy trading and risk management before enrolling at the University of Texas’ full-time MBA program in 2014. During my MBA program, I studied abroad at the London School of Economics. It was there that I first learned about DHL Consulting and began considering working in Europe.

What I like to do in my spare time:

I like working out and playing sports. I especially enjoy playing and watching football. I am a huge supporter of Manchester United. It is nice to see logo of the company that I am working for on the jerseys of the club that I am rooting for. I enjoy travelling and discovering new places. I also enjoy listening to music, dancing and attending concerts. I like reading non-fiction, especially autobiographies and long-form articles. Of course, since I moved to Germany, I have invested some time in improving my German language skills.
