Pia Simon
Consultant, BASF Management Consulting
My Job as Inhouse Consultant:
Since 2023, I’m part of the practice group “Strategy & Organization” at BASF Inhouse Consulting.
In my day-to-day work, I collaborate with a wide range of top decision makers within the BASF group to develop and implement strategies that ultimately create sustainable value for the company. This requires a keen eye for the big picture while being confident in the details. A certain sensitivity and experience in dealing with stakeholders and in communication is also particularly important in this context.
My daily challenges:
In my role as an Inhouse Consultant, it is particularly important to always be flexible. The fact that BASF is one of the leading chemical companies in the world means that the range of tasks for Inhouse Consulting is very complex. So not only is the purely content-related part challenging and at the same time extremely thrilling, but also integrating perspectives of the top managers around the globe.
Why I like to work as Inhouse Consultant:
I consider working as an Inhouse Consultant to be a great opportunity to get to know the company from the ground up.
Not only are the projects usually limited in time, so that you can gain a lot of different experiences in a short period of time, but also the networking opportunities within the company are enormous.
From the company’s point of view, this offers the decisive advantage that best practice examples can be exchanged. From a personal development perspective, one’s own limits can be tested, which helps to get clarity on what one would like to do in the future..
What I like most about being an Inhouse Consultant:
I particularly appreciate the dynamic working environment with my colleagues in the Inhouse Consulting department, where so many different academic & cultural backgrounds come together.
Also, I also really like the fact that our clients (as opposed to external consultancies) are also my colleagues. This makes it much easier and more worthwhile to work together and find common solution approaches.
My life before joining the Inhouse Consultancy:
Before joining BASF Inhouse Consulting, I started my consulting career at EY Parthenon in the Turnaround & Restructuring Strategy practice. Prior to that, I studied Business Administration in my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.
What I like to do in my spare time:
During my spare time I really enjoy doing sports (especially spinning & skiing). Besides that, I love DIY projects and travelling to new places.
